MOSCOW/LONDON – Wednesday 10 September, 2014: ROSKINO CEO, Katya Mtsitouridze, today announced the latest leading professionals from the Russian and International entertainment industries to join the Board of Trustees of the Saint Petersburg International Media Forum (SPIMF), organised by ROSKINO with the support of the Government of St. Petersburg.

The new members of the Board are Jerome Paillard, the Executive Director of the Marche du Film (Cannes), director and producer Fedor Bondarchuk, who also chairs the Board of Directors at Lenfilm Studios, and Jay Penske, Penske Media Corporation’s founder and CEO and owner of Variety magazine.

Fedor Bondarchuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Lenfilm Studios, producer, director and member of the SPIMF's Board of Trustees commented: ‘The Russian media industry is becoming more and more integrated into the global media industry and is gradually starting to participate in discussions on key questions and trends as a full member. I’m sure that Saint Petersburg’s Media Forum will become a platform for international business, a festival with a rich and diverse programme and a market for new media technologies, uniting Russian and international professionals and audiences.’

The SPIMF's Board of Trustees is headed by Georgy Poltavchenko, St. Petersburg’s Acting Governor, and determines key strategies and decisions regarding the Media Forum’s programme and events preparation. Other members of the board include Alexander Akopov (producer, President of Amedia, Co-Chairman of the Film and TV Producers Association), Katya Mtsitouridze (head of ROSKINO, film expert for Channel One and SPIMF’s general producer) and Mikhail Piotrovsky (Director of the State Hermitage Museum). The process of adding further members to the Board of Trustees is on-going.

Jay Penske, Variety owner, member of the SPIMF Advisory Board added: ‘Today the Russian media and entertainment markets are quickly ascending. It possesses huge potential and upside for those with patience and a strategic global view.  Therefore it's critical that this event takes place in St. Petersburg, the cultural capital of Russia, and the city with the illustrious architecture, rich culture and leading business executives. I'm proud that the creator of SPIMF is Katya Mtsituridze – the EIC of Variety Russia. We have enjoyed our alliance with Katya for years, and watched her professionalism and smarts as a thought leader in both cinema and media. I'm convinced that Media Forum will become an important platform for global media discussion, networking, and leading execs, cinematographers, producers, directors from around the world and much more.’

It was also revealed that the Media Forum's Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be staged by Vasily Barkhatov, a renowned theatre director with experience in filmmaking. Together with Katya Mtsitouridze, he is currently developing the script for a technological show about contemporary media, cinema and TV. The staging is to be carried out by Show Consulting, a leading company in this field. The company has also been working on constructing the international cross-platform media market, to be held on the site of the Stock Exchange.

Vasily Barkhatov, director: ‘It's great to be invited to take part in such an exciting, cutting-edge event. And it’s twice as great when you’re part of the team which creates and defines this set up from the beginning. When Katya invited me to stage the official ceremonies, my first thought was to run away in fear after hearing the long list of people and companies involved of whom I’m a personal fan; but then I thought that to be part of this event as stage director would be a great opportunity. I’ve always been curious about all kinds of visual arts and therefore the idea of uniting cinema, TV and the Internet in one umbrella format seemed absolutely logical and constructive. Both the format of our Forum and - more importantly - its substance are so organic and intuitive that I really want the opening and closing ceremonies to reflect upon both form and substance in a careful and skilful way, to act as a statement of future intentions and to get everyone involved in the world of the Media Forum from day one.’
