Russian cinema is coming to The Land of Smiles

The Thai audience will see the latest of 2022 – a drama “The One”, based on real events, a comedy “Desperate for Marriage”, as well as earlier pictures from Russian directors – a sci-fi thriller “Sputnik” and a ballet drama “Bolshoi”. The younger film fans will discover a magical and fun world of adventure in the animated series “Kid-e-cats”.

Russian Film Festival in Thailand is organised by ROSKINO with the support of the Ministry of Culture Russian Federation and Embassy of The Russian Federation In The Kingdom Of Thailand. In 2022 the days of Russian cinema have taken place in other Asian countries – India and China, as well as in Latin America, Middle East, Europe and the CIS.

CEO of ROSKINO Inna Shalyto: In 2022, the diplomatic ties between Russia and Thailand celebrate their 125th birthday. Cultural ties are an important part of this relationship. We are excited to organise the first Russian Film Festival in the Kingdom of Thailand. This country happens to be one of the most cinematic countries in the world: many international film crews travel to work here; the local audience loves cinema and we want to show the Thai people the depth and variety of contemporary Russian cinematography. The local audience is used to a great variety in film (as Thai filmmakers create pictures in a variety of genres), that is why we included in the Russian Film Festival different genres - a drama about survival, a sci-fi thriller, a romantic comedy, a film about life of a ballet dancer and an animation for children. I am certain that the Russian Film Festival in Thailand will become the foundation of an improved cooperation for the film industries of both our countries.  




The Russian Film Festival program in Thailand: 

• “The One” (director: Dmitri Suvorov, 2022) – a drama based on real events. 24 August, 1981, newlyweds Larisa and Vladimir Savitsky boarded a plane, route, Komsomolsk on Amur – Blagoveshensk. Half an hour before landing, Flight AH-24 collided with another aircraft and fell apart at the altitude of 5 kilometres. No one should have survived that – but a miracle happened – Larisa woke amidst the ruins of the plane, in the middle of the taiga. 

• “Desperate for Marriage” (director: Sonia Karpunina, 2022) – a romantic comedy about a journalist, whose life is going according to plan: an anchor on a TV show, a successful, wealthy soon to be husband. The plans falter when a random encounter triggers an entire series of events which flips her life upside down.

• “Sputnik” (director: Yegor Abramenko, 2020) – a captivating thriller, events take place in the 1980s in the USSR. A cosmonaut and national hero, return to earth with a strange creature… Inside his own body. In a secret laboratory of a town which doesn’t officially exist, a young scientist tries to save the man’s life from the beast within him. She soon realises that her feeling s for her patient are far more than merely professional… 

• “The Bolshoi” (director: Valerii Todorovskii, 2017) – a Russian drama film about a young dancer Yulia, who received an opportunity to appear on stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. However, even the most precious of diamonds need to be worked on, in order to become truly valuable. For Yulia, the path to the Bolshoi Theatre stage lies through the rigors of ballet school. To become a star, many sacrifices need to be made… However, no obstacle can ever stop a person who has a big dream…

• “Kid-e-cats” (director: Dmitrii Visotsky, 2015) – an animated series; an adventure story about three inquisitive kittens for preschool children. The show is aired in 170 countries around the world and the total views clocked on YouTube, is over 5.4 billion.
